Inquiry time for Meles After the House of People’s Representatives started its regular session on October 10  Prime Minister Meles Zenawi was tasked to respond to parliamentarians. In what seems a new development, the PM dealt with unusual questions from his own party members in addition to the question from the sole opposition parliamentarian, Girma Seifu.
The PM talked about diversified  issues including: economic infrastructural development imbedded in the governing economic plan of the country, inflation, educational quality assurance, revenue collection, good governance, media, terrorism, the devastating drought in the horn of Africa, forming industrial elites, political space, violence against women and IMF growth

Meles sees US war on terror as ‘Godsend’: Leaked US embassy cable Opposition for years has accused the United States of, “turning a blind eye to Prime Minister Meles Zenawi’s poor human rights records”, a trade off they say whiich was made to protect its security and ensure Ethiopia’s supposed participation in the war on terror.
US diplomatic cables made public by whistleblower WikiLeaks confirm that the US and Ethiopia have held very strong ties on the war on terror and even describe Meles as accepting the campaign as a ‘Godsend.’ The documents however show no evidence of the US dropping talks on human right issues for the sake of the partnership.
